Cotton is the safest for babies. That's because newborn skin:
is Sensitive
The fibres used in fabrics made from cotton are softer and safer for your baby. They flow one way stopping the ends from itching your little one. Plus they are free from toxic dyes and chemicals often found in synthetic baby clothes.
is Thin
Your baby's skin is 3-5 times thinner and more permeable than an adults which means that substances can travel through the layers into their bodies.
is Absorbent
Your baby's skin is highly absorbent so it's critical to use fragrance-free, hypo-allergenic clothing. Avoid perfumes and dyes, which can seriously irritate newborn skin. Extra-fragile preemie skin warrants special attention so make sure the clothes close to their skin is free from polyester, nylon, viscose, rayon and acrylic.
Regulates Temperature
A baby does can not dress themselves or cool themselves down so their skin is a great way to do this. Clothes made from synthetic fibres contain plastic and suffocate the skin stopping it's ability to breathe and stay moisturised.
